I'm a big fan of doilies. I have them all over my house - under lamps, under flower vases etc. I immediately knew that I needed to make a doily table runner once I saw this one on Pinterest:
While I adore doilies, I cannot make them. I can crochet, just not with the teeny tiny hooks and the teeny tiny thin yarn. So I asked my awesomely crafty cousin Sarah for some help. She whipped up a bunch of doilies for me and I mixed them up with some I had around the house, some that my mom had made, two that I purchased at JoAnn Fabrics and a couple that I had bought from an antique store to make my table runner.
To construct the table runner I first sprayed each doily with fabric stiffener then ironed it flat. Then I decided on how I wanted to lay them out. I tied them together loosely with bright yellow yarn to use as a guide, then stitched them together with white yarn. I stitched them together at the corners or points where they join and you can't even see my stitches - they blend right in with the crocheting. I ironed the whole thing once more with fabric stiffener when I was done.
I pretty much think it completes our little breakfast area nook!
